He name is Henry Asencio and he is the artist of this piece. Henry paints very elegant women. He also sketches too. In this painting there is a young woman on the ground leaning back on her hands. She has one leg straight out and the leg furthest from the viewer is bent. The face of the women is covered by her hair. This painting is just a simple profile shot but it is still able to capture so much beauty. Henry is able to capture this beauty through the position of the women, the colors he chose, and the texture of his brush stroke. Henry uses analogous colors that are all next to each other on the color wheel. A red fabric is draped over the top of the women’s body. There is also red in the background along with oranges and yellows. What is interesting is how Henry contrasts the vibrant back with the cool foreground. He also added a strong light source coming from the left side of the painting. This light source illuminates the front of the women. Henry’s style of painting is unique because he adds so much texture on to the canvas. He leaves thick paint and his brush strokes are apparent. Even through all the texture he puts in to his paintings the women are painted very precisely and detailed.

IMAGE ESSAY #14

This dress was designed by Jean Paul Gaultier. Not only can color be used in paintings but it can also be used in clothing. It is obvious that it took Jean Paul Gaultier careful consideration when choosing what color to make this dress. He absolutely did not just randomly choose a color of fabric for this dress. This is a very elegant dress and the elegance is increased by the dark, soft tone of blue that it is. The blue used on this dress is eye popping but not in the same way that a bright neon color would be. This blue is eye catching and attractive. It gives a positive appeal. If a neon color was used it would only create a distraction. This appears to be a kind of evening gown and the blue of the dress is appropriate for the occasion. The dark blue helps illuminate the night. The blue gives the dress a calming feel. The dress is approachable and not intimidating. Jean Paul Gaultier also incorporated value in to the dress. The interesting part is that the value will change depending on what direction one views the dress. The color value will change depending on where the folds are at what time. The bottom of the dress will move as the women walks which will form value in different places. This dress is a gorgeous dress that was well thought out. People would be drawn to this dress.

IMAGE ESSAY #13

The artist of this painting is Eric Fischl. He uses very high contrasting colors in this painting. He uses a very light peach color which is almost white next to black. These light stripes on the woman's body are representing light that is coming through the shades behind her. By contrasting the shade light with the woman's black dress makes the light pop out. The man in the background has no high contrasting shade light on his black jacket which causes him to fall back in to the painting. The background consists of calm colors that are all next to each other on the color wheel, which is known as analgous colors. The colors of the background are all different shades blue and blue grays. The artist does not dramatic colors on the background because they want it to remain behind the objects. If the background was too contrasting, too bright, or too dramatic it would become too much of a focus. He also uses the gestalt principles in his painting. He uses repetition with the lines of light on the women’s body. He also uses grouping with the three orange figures in the background. Eric Fischl uses color very well in this painting and is able to use interesting color schemes.

IMAGE ESSAY #12

The artist of this painting is Georgia O'Keeffe. The colors in this painting are all very similar. Georgia uses dark blues and deep purples. These colors are next to each other on the color wheel following the Analogous color scheme. He also uses light blue in the background of the painting. By still keeping the background blue he is still following the Analogous color scheme, but by changing the value of the blue to a much lighter color, Georgia has created a high contrast between the object and the background. This causes the outline of the flower to be crisp and enables the flower to pop out. He also uses high contrast to differentiate between the two separate flowers. The flower in the foreground has a very light outline which is on top of the other flower that is dark blue. O’keeffe uses a very dark purple which is nearly black in the center of the flowers to show the depth of the inside of the flowers. He also uses a dark line down the center of the peddles to show that an indentation exists. The painting consists of two similar flowers which forms grouping in the painting. This color scheme uses some very deep colors yet the painting remains beautiful.

IMAGE ESSAY #11

The Artist of this painting is Wayne Thiebaud. Wayne uses many different color schemes throughout his work. In this painting he is using complementary colors. The bowling shoes are lined up in rows next to each other. The complementary colors appear on the bowling shoes as red and green. Red is on one side of the shoe and green in on the other. Wayne is using blue in the background of the painting. He uses blue as a neutral color in the painting. It works as a neural because it is between red and green on the color wheel. The colors blue, green, and red are being used as a Triadic color scheme. All three of these colors are equidistant on the color wheel. The colors in this painting are well thought out and compliment each other very well. Not only is Wayne using the color schemes well he is also following the gestalt principles. He is using repetition by creating three rows of the shoes and also uses repetition by placing all the shoes next to each other in the rows. Wayne also uses the grouping principle. The shoes are all similar and work as a group. He also has a light source coming from the right side.

IMAGE ESSAY #10

This picture also shows a foreground, middle ground, and background. The fallen skater makes a very strong foreground. The middle ground consists of the legs of the other skaters, and the background is blurred but one could probably assume that the crowd was in the background. This photo is very unique and interesting because the foreground is static and everything in the middle and background are in motion. They appear in motion because they are blurred as if they are moving at a high speed. The images are being streaked across the page. There is a slight light source in this photograph, although it is not very strong. There are also no high contrasting values in the photo to help make anything pop out. The reason that the women in the foreground is popping out is because she much larger than everything around her and everything behind is blurred when she remains crisp, clear, and static. The foreground and background are creating tension. The blurry background forms a closure around her, which also helps bring her forward. The skater in the foreground represents the dominant structure in this piece. The legs of the skaters in the middle ground are the subordinant images and the audience is the assentials. The legs in the background also create grouping.

IMAGE ESSAY #9

This image has a very strong background, middle ground, and foreground. This photo is unique because one object is being used to show a depth in space instead of a lot of images over lapping each other to show depth. The feet of a young lady are a strong foreground and her legs are used to lead the viewer’s eye back into space following her body. The middle of her body is the middle ground and her head is in the background of the rest of her body. There is also a background behind her head. There are the pool balls on the pool ball table and even behind that there is a wall with a door. There is a strong light source which helps cause high contrast. The top of her legs are very much lightened by the light, while the underneath of her legs and the bottom of her feet are not lightened and are a deep black. The top of her shoes are very light compared to the bottom of her shoes. This contrast causes the top of her shoes to come in front of the bottom of her shoes. There is also s form of grouping in the background of photo with the pool balls.

IMAGE ESSAY #8
This photograph is a very good representation of foreground, middle ground, and background. The women in the red dress is in the foreground. She also forms the dominant structure in the photo. She is the largest figure. There is a street with white lines on it in the middle ground. The lines help lead the eye to a man holding a yellow jacket who is also in the middle background. The man is not the smallest image in the photo so he represents the subodinant object in the piece. In the background are cars and buildings, which shows the settings of a city. There are signs on the building that are the smallest objects in the photo that represents the assentails. The background leads back in to a brighter light until the viewer can not see anything any more. The foreground and the background show such a dramatic difference that it helps show depth. The depth is also helped to be shown with the bright light in the background. But this time because of all the overlapping the brightness is being pushed back. The gestalt principle, repetition is located in the white street lines on the left side of the photo. The objects in this photo keep the viewer’s eye moving.

Image Essay #7
This picture is a good representation of value. There are many variations within the folds of the dress. Having a strong light source helps add to the variation in the value in this photo. A strong light source also helps add a strong contrast between lights and darks in the photo. The obvious contrast is between the top and bottom of the photograph. The high contrast really emphasis’s the folds in the dress. The brightness of the bottom half of the dress helps it come forward in the photo. The strong light source causes the entire upper half of the body to be in shady. This is a good way to add drama to a piece. The top half of the young lady falls back in the photo because of its dark value. This is the only sense of depth in the entire photo besides the depth that is also in the folds of the dress. This is a very simple photo that only consists of one object, but it becomes very complex with the amount of value in it. The value is what makes this piece, without it, it would not be as eye catching as it is. The strong light source causes the entire upper half of the body to be in shady. This is a good way to add drama to a piece.

BLOG #5

1.) We define a place by making our make or making it our own by adding artwork or design. A place can define us by influencing our ideas.

2) Richard Serra was influenced when he visited a giant ship yard and also when he saw a rocket ship blast off. He looked as these things as being so gigantic they over powered the people. This influenced his art work because his artwork is giant steel sculptures that people can walk through. The sculpture is over powering.
Sally Mann was influenced by her chilhood. It was normal for her to run around naked as a child. So she used her childhood experiences and allowed her children to do the same. This allow her to take photgraphs of her naked children. These picture were just meant to be pictures of her children. She also took pictures of landscapes that she had been to. She likes to take pictures for fun.
Margerette and Berry like to find places that interests them to place their art. When they do grafitti in other places they can see other peoples grafitti and learn about them. Berry is inspired by things found on the street. He sees a difference between working on mirals inside and doing things on the street.
Pepon Osorio was influenced by his first haircut at a barbershop. He was terrified and cried the whole time. He used this place and expierence to creat a public artwork called "No Crying Allowed in the Batbershop". He wanted to go beyond something on the wall, so he recreated experiences and places he has been to.

3.) This program has altered my notion of how art expresses places by helping me understand arts that I did not understand before. It has made me realize that many things I did not understand were based on a place the artist was once at.

4.) I feel most connected to Sally Mann because she does art for fun. She uses what is around her and uses things she loves such as her children. I like to make art on things that I am passionate about.

5.) Richard Serra uses steel this makes the scale of his artwork much larger than other in a 3d form. Berry McGee also creates large scaled artwork, but in 2d form. He creates miral forms on walls that span an entire room. Since Sally is doing photography her pieces will be smaller.

6.) zoo- exciting
Bowman pool- fun
trees- Adventures
basement- imagination
grocery store- boring

7.) In the basement their where couches, toys, mirrors, a TV, fooseball table, and a back room that we weren't allowed in. The couches were big and fuzzy, the mirrors were also big but they were smooth and glossy, and the toys had all sorts of textures such as soft, hard, rough, and squishy. With a light on it was very bright, but a lot a times we played games in the dark at that time you couldnt see your hand in front of you. It was dark and suspcious.

1.) The story would be about my twin brother and I going to different colleges. This story would be told in a book form because then the way the both of us were feeling could be viewed more in depth. A book would help get into our minds.

2.) Some stories are told opposed to other because some have more of an effect on people. Some stories are continued to be told because they have more of a meaning and interest. People do not get tired of hearing them.

3.) They uses journels and sketchbooks to get their ideas on paper and to pull stories together. A journal and a sketchbook are both works of art because they are pages full of concepts and ideas. That is how art is created.

4.) Me and my mom went to Andersons and I was following her. I started looking at the lights on the floor and when I looked up I didnt know where I was or where my mom was. I was so scared. I thought she left me so I wen to the door and was walking out of the store to find her. Then she found me, at the door.
I was walking with my mom and got side tracked by the reflections of light on the floor. When I looked up my mom and I had seperated. So I went to the door to wait for her. She came after a few minutes and we went home.

IMAGE ESSAY #6

This photograph is very interesting. The one thing that makes this picture is the bright light. It creates a focus. The raise of light that are coming out of the light helps the viewers eye move to the light and the stage. The raise of light also create a repetition that moves around the circle of light. The people in the crowd represent grouping. There is also grouping in the background with the four screens all being next to each other. The light streams on the right side and about the stage contain the stage therefore they create containment. The gestalt principle repetition is shown through the lines of the streams of light continually being next to each other at the top of the photo. There is also repetition on the left side of the photo from the rays of light. The light created a light source that draws the viewer in. It causes all of the people in the audience to be silhouettes. The photo would be much flatter if the light were not part of the picture. It also helps add energy to the piece. The bright light and the crowd of people are a dramatic high contrasts this is making the bright light look like it is popping out of the photo

IMAGE ESSAY #5

This photograph is a representation of symmetry. Even though the rasberries inside the water of the cup are assymetrical, the cup is symmetrical. It is center in the photograph and can be split down the center, the right side is the same as the left side. The pouring water in the upper left also creates assymmetry. It helps ass interest to the whole composition. By making the focal object symmetrical and things aroung and inside of it helps break a pattern and create interest to the viewer. It is working very well for the peice. The simplicity of the photo is what adds to it. It causes the viewer to see the beauty and the detail the water provides. Even thought the water is colorless it is creating a reflection that shows its existence. The reflections of the water help contrast with the raspberries in the cup. The raspberries also stand out because they are only sense of color in the whole photo. Having only one color also contributes to the simplicity of the photo. The background is blurred and there are no objects indicated this helps make the cup the center of attention and makes it stand out. The viewer is slightly looking down on the cup causing us to see the whole rim of the cup.

IMAGE ESSAY #4

This photograph has a great composition. It shows many gestalt principles. The tombstones are placed in a line side by side. By doing this it causes repetition. Also all of the tombstones are similar. They are similar through shape, size, color, and in their placement. Therefore they can be grouped by any of these similarities. Another form of gestalt principle that this photo uses is containment. The containment occurs within the two rows of tombstones. The two rows are on the left and the right of the man. This contains the man between them. There is also a line that follows along the bottom of the photo. This white line also helps to contain the man and the tombstones. The tombstones also create repetition, another gestalt principle. The tombstones on the right create a line that helps lead the viewers eyes to the man. The man is very dark while the tombstones around him are white. This is creating high contrast making the tombstones come forward more than the man. The man is falling back because of his dark shade. The tombstones are creating depth in the photo but changing value as they go back. The farther back the tombstones are the darker they are. Darkness goes back while lightness comes forward.

IMAGE ESSAY #3
This image has a very interesting composition. The table and chairs are located to the right side of the image rather tham just being placed in the middle of the photo. The simplicity of the photo helps add more interests. It causes the table and chairs to be the area of focus. Also by moving the table and chairs to the right side, it makes the image asymmetrical. The light source in the picture is coming from the right side. This is made noticable through the shadows being left on the walls. The horizontal line that is slitting the page is helping lead the viewers eyes to the area of focus. This is a very well taken photo. The simplicity was a risk but it worked very well. There is also a high contrast between the chairs and the wall. There is even a high contrast between the chairs and the window bordering the right side of the photo. Even though the chairs and table are not directly on the white contrast this still helps bring them out because they are being contained by their contrast. This is following one of the Gestalt principles. This is a well token photo but one thing that bother me is the corner of a picture frame in the upper left hand corner of the photo. This causes distraction and confusion. What is on the picture frame? The frame should either be completely shown are removed.

1.) There is a bike head light in the foreground of this photo. The head light being in the foreground creates the dominant structure of the photo. The subordinant subject is the bike that is located in the middle ground of the photo and the assential subjects are the number of bikes in the background. The bikes in the background follow the gestalt principle, grouping. Although the interesting part is that the viewer may not have known what the head light actually was if it were alone in the photo because the view of it is so close up, but because of the congregation of bicycles in the background one can automatically assume that it is a head light from a bike. Also the sun is causing the metal on the head light to form many reflections. One of the reflections in the metal is the handle bars from the bike. This also helps determine what the object in the foreground is. This is a very well took picture. The bikes are creating depth in the picture by over lapping each other and continuing to get smaller. The bikes being cluttered together in the background of the photo is creating a gestalt principle known as grouping.

All the images in the composition of my piece related to each other one way or another. I was trying to portray a message through the juxtaposed images although one might have to interpret it a little longer in order to get it. The message I was trying to portray was the idea of getting caught or it could also give the viewer the idea that someone is being searched for. The leg in the bottom left hand corner of the composition may not seem relevant but it actually represents the one being searched and they are calling to the searcher “come get me”. I get this sense from the image because it is very provocative and instigating, who wouldn’t go after that?
I came up with the theme before I began searching for images, but the idea grew and became complete when I began finding them. The images that are the most dominant are the images that have the most attitude and are a little more edgy. The other subordinate and accentual pictures are the ones that do not have as much emotion but they are the ones that tie the story together. There is a congregated group of accentual images that will draw the viewer’s attention because it is in the middle of the composition and the viewer may also try to read into what the objects represent. The accentual images balance the composition and keep the viewers eye moving around the picture.

IMAGE ESSAY #1
This picture has a very interesting composition. The composition consists of a very simple geometric shape that is placed in the upper right hand corner. This shape is a circle that is the top of a coffee cup. The viewer is looking down into the cup. There is also a spoon laying in the cup the handle is pointing to the bottom left hand corner of the photo. The most dominant postive shape is the table that the cup is setting on, but because the cup is setting on it, the cup is the main focus of the picture. The most dominant negative space is the space on the left side of tthe table. This negative space is a very dark black which helps balance with the dark coffee that is left in the cup. I also think that it helps bring out the coffee in the cup. The Black against the white cup creates a high contrast which also helps the cup pop out. The dark background drops back in the photo. By looking down in to the coffee cup it creates depth, and once again the dark coffee at the bottom of the mug causes the bottom to drop back and the rim to come forward.

<2-d>
I have been pretty much making art for my entire life. Ever sinceI can remember I have always wanted to get sketch books, and I even remember the first time I begged my mom to let me use her nice paints so I could try painting. I make art because I love it and it makes me very happy. It also helps me show my feels if I ever have to. I really feel like I have accomplished something after I finish a piece of artwork. Art is the way of creating something, it sends messages, and it can be used for entertainment. I believe that anything can be art. I also love going to museums! I have been to gallerys in Columbus which I loved, and it is also where I descovered what is now my favorite artist, Henry Asencio. This is random but the cd in my cd player right now is Sublime.
